Wooden Honours Boards
Wooden honours boards have long been a time-honoured way to celebrate achievements and preserve a rich legacy in schools, sports clubs, businesses, and heritage institutions across the UK. As a family-run workshop established over 50 years ago, we pride ourselves on our time-tested craftsmanship, using quality timber and hand-finished detailing to deliver long-lasting, visually striking honour boards.
On this page, we’ll explore everything from wood choices and lettering options to pricing and installation, ensuring you have the insight and inspiration needed to make an informed choice about your wooden honours board.
A Short Guide to What You Need to Know
If you've arrived here and aren't sure what honours board you need or what what options are available, we hope this page and the various guides on this site prove to be a great source of information for you.
A very quick summary would be as follows,
The size of the board is dictated by what you want on the board and how many years capacity it needs to have. For example, if you want 13 competitions displayed and enough space for another 45 years, then that's going to be a larger board than a board which only needs to display the chairman of the club and the years they were in office.
There is no quick formula we can give you to work out the size, as it depends on whether you have 1 winner per competition, 2 or 3 and how those names are displayed. Is it "A. Namehere" or "Anon Namehere" or is it "Anon Namehere & Sam Plename".
We make this simple for you. Just tell us what you want to display on your honour board and we'll then do all the hard work and let you know how big it needs to be.
Wood colour and text colour should be opposite each other for the most legible text. ie: Light oak wood and matt black text. Dark oak wood and light gold text. Those types of high contrast options really help the content of the board stand out.
So with that in mind, we hope the information on this page is useful and we look forward to hearing from you.

The very short answer would be, "Whatever you want, we've over 44,000 fonts in our library!". If that seems a little overwhelming, be assured our graphic designers expertise is free of charge and we'll always help and advise as much / little as needed.
-
Fonts: Whether you prefer a classical serif font for a more formal look (Times New Roman) or a bold sans-serif (Open Sans) for a more contemporary vibe, we have over 44,000 typefaces on file. We can suggest options for you.
-
Text Colour: To ensure maximum legibility, darker woods often pair well with gold, white, or cream lettering, while lighter finishes may benefit from black or charcoal text. Again, we offer one of the largest ranges of colour options with over 400 individual text colour choices. Please check our honours board gallery for a visual guide to the most popular.
-
Vinyl Lettering: We produce all of our lettering in computer cut vinyl. This ensures a crisp clean set of lettering which can be easily updated by yourself in the future. Please see our video 'How to apply honours board lettering' for a demonstration.
-
Tip: Consider the viewing distance. If your board is mounted high up or in a large hall, a larger font size and high-contrast lettering will boost readability. Our graphic designers can take this into account when working with you.
Can I Have a Club / School Logo on My Board?
Absolutely! One of the benefits of choosing us to manufacture your boards is that we've a huge amount of sign making equipment in our premises. Printing your logo and integrating it onto your board is very simple.
-
Club & School Crests / Logos: We can produce your club emblem, school badge, or business logo using digitally printed decals or vector-cut vinyl for a truly unique touch. Please see the image of Cornwood Cricket Club as an example of a printed logo with lettering.
-
Placement & Sizing: Incorporate a prominent crest at the top for instant recognition, or position it near the bottom if you prefer a more subtle accent. Gable and Hill Top honours boards are perfect for positioning a logo at the top of the board as a stand-out feature.
-
Graphic Designers: We have an in-house art dept who will draw your design proof for you. We just need an idea of what you're looking to display on your board.
-
Tip: Send us your club logo and we'll incorporate it into the design. The higher resolution image the better, but if you're unsure; please send all the club logo files you have and we'll pick the best quality one.

Maintenance, Care & Future Updates.
We have a page packed with useful information relating to the care and maintenance of wooden honours boards but here is a concise summary.
-
Dust Regularly: Use a soft, lint-free cloth and avoid harsh chemicals.
-
Moderate Environment: Keep away from damp or extreme humidity to preserve the finish. A stable indoor environment is by far the best location.
-
Updating Your Board: When it’s time to add new names or achievements, we can supply additional lettering for you to install, which saves the cost of employing someone to sign write your honours boards each year. We have a helpful video showing how this is done.
Matching Existing Honours Boards
If you have existing honours boards and want new ones to blend seamlessly please get in touch. We have a page dedicated to exploring this avenue in detail, but for the purposes of this page here, we just need to know:
-
Photographs & Dimensions: Send clear images and accurate measurements of the existing board(s). If you're able to send the board to us / drop it off that would be superb and give us the best chance of a good match.
-
Wood Grain & Finish Samples: We’ll do our best to replicate the stain and finish but keep in mind that variations in older wood or sun-faded boards may affect exact colour matching. Likewise, colour matching from photographs is near impossible to get an exact match. Please order samples from us to enable a closer match.
-
Typeface & Layout: We’ll match existing fonts, lettering style, and column arrangement based on your supplied measurements and photographs.
